Chinese herbs comparable to hormones for Endometriosis

Researchers have found that post-surgical administration of Chinese herbs may have comparable benefits to danazol but with fewer side effects. Oral Chinese herbal medicine may have a better overall treatment effect and may be more effective in relieving dysmenorrhea and shrinking masses.

Chinese herbs for menstrual pain

There is promising evidence for the use of Chinese herbal medicine in reducing
menstrual pain in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhoea, compared to conventional medicine, acupuncture and heat compression. No significant adverse effects were identified.

Diet and Lifestyle impact on Fertility

Bellver J, Lie M (2008) Impact of Bodyweight and Lifestyle on IVF outcome.

Experts at the University of California at San Diego reported in Fertility and Sterility in 2005 that stress may play a role in the success of infertility treatments, including IVF. Women who were most stressed had ovulated 20% fewer eggs compared with women who were less stressed and were 20% less likely to achieve successful fertilisation.

A group of women undergoing IVF were given a Chinese herb formula known to help prevent miscarriage and stabilise early pregnancy, from 2 days after their embryo transfer (combined with progesterone) up until 9 weeks of pregnancy if they conceived. The control group used progesterone support only. 13% of the women who conceived while taking the Chinese herb formula miscarried, while 23% of the women in the control group miscarried. There were no adverse effects on liver or kidney function in the treated group, and no birth defects in the treated group. Chin J Integr Med 2006, 12(3) : 189-193
